Jean Pierre Bekolo
Jean Pierre Bekolo is with no doubt one of the best film directors in Cameroon. Aside from that Bekolo is also a writer and an activist. He is notably known for his impressive skills and creativity as depicted on all his works. For Bekolo his journey begun way back and his debut in the film industry was marked in 1992 where his film ‘Quartier Mozart’ garnered attention at the Cannes Film Festival.
Bekolo is known for his creative appeal when it comes to blending different genres and this attribute has brought growth in African Cinema. He has not been hesitant to explore the most sensitive genre that is politics despite getting some few critics on his side. On some of his projects he has directed Aristotle’s Plot, Les Saignantes a film that received nominations at the French Cesars and it got to premier at Toronto Film Festival. In 2007, the film Les Saignantes bagged awards for Silver Stallion as well as the category of Best actress at Pan African Film and Television Festival in Burkina Faso.
Some other projects Bekolo has worked on include Les Choses et Les Mots de Mudimbe, Naked Reality, Miraculous Weapons, Le President among others.
Achille Brice is one of the rising film directors and producers in Cameroon. Initially, before diving into filmmaking Achille was a recording artist but backed with his passion for filmmaking he decided to fully explore the industry. Through his journey Achille has put utmost dedication and through his skills he has managed to work in South Africa, Nigeria and Germany
His first debut film was Obsession and this film opened doors to more opportunities as he later went to produce ICU a film that was quite successful since its premier. Some more projects Achille has worked on as a director include Life Point and Fakeh among others. In his nominations Achille received three nominations in 2011 at the Zulu African Film Academy Awards For Best filmmaker in Cameroon. He also holds the title for the first Cameroonian English film to receive nominations at ECRANS Noir Film Festival. Achille’s star continues to shine.
