Mercy Murugi is a well accomplished film producer and production manager in Kenya. Beyond the borders Mercy has worked on both local and international projects. Her creativity and passion for the film industry is well depicted and as a result she has garnered multiple awards for some of her projects. Her film ‘Togetherness Supreme’ in which she was the executive producer bagged an award at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2010 in the category of ‘Best International Feature Film’. The same film also won awards at the Global Landscape Award Cinequest Film Festival in 2011 and at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2011.
To top on her achievement in 2009 Mercy started Kibera Film School which aims to train kids in Kibera to embrace the art of filmmaking. Some of the projects she has worked across the globe include ‘Stranded with Cash Peters’, ‘Worse than War’. Mercy has also work in collaboration with productions of Discovery Channel, BBC, National Geographic among others. She is currently under Page83 films as a producer.
Appie Matere is best known for the production of some of the leading TV and Film productions in Kenya. As a producer she has worked on ‘Kona’ which was a Kenyan telenovela where she managed to produce 260 episodes. She has also worked together with Judy Kibinge on an award winning project ‘Killer Necklace’ which is a documentary that won at Kalasha 2010 awards in the category of ‘Best Feature Documentary’.
Appie is a cofounder of Zamaradi Productions which is one of Kenya’s leading film production houses. She is also currently an executive producer at Zamaradi Productions. As a producer Appie asserts that in the role of a film producer one has to put in hard work and dedication in order to have a successful final project right from the inception until completion. She recognizes that one of the challenges facing most filmmakers in Kenya is distribution but in deed with time this gap will be filled. Appie continues to excel in her field of expertise as she strives to put out more successful projects.
