In 2013 Lupita’s acting career made the greatest turn when she received an Academy Award for her role in the Historical drama 12 years as a slave. With this acknowledgement she put Kenya on the map as she became the first Kenyan actress to receive the prestigious Academy Award.
At the start of her acting career Lupita first featured in the MTV drama series, Shuga (2009). From then on her career sky rocketed and she appeared in the thriller Non-Stop (2014), and she has also played in the big-budget films Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and The Jungle Book (2016). Lupita has also played the lead role in the recently released film Black Panther where she plays the role of Nakia.
Edi Gathegi is also a household name in Hollywood. He was the one name linked to Kenya that appeared in film credits. Edi has featured in Twilight, House, X-Men First Class, Gone Baby Gone and Crank among many other Hollywood films. In Crank (2006), Gathegi plays the Haitian cabbie; in Death Sentence he plays Bodie; Darudi in The Fifth Patient; Cheese in Gone Baby Gone; He is Dr. Jeffrey Cole in House; Laurent in Twilight; and also had a guest star role in CSI: Miami. His most recent roles include Atlas Shrugged and Family Tools.
Benjamin is regarded as Hollywood’s go-to actor for Kiswahili lines. Having played about 60 roles as an extra Benjamin mentioned he spoke swahili and this move led the Director of X-Files to hire him for a role three times. Currently he is now an actor with an impressive filmography and is fast making a name for himself as a producer and sound editor.With 20 titles to his filmography that include a voice actor in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Benjamin has also worked in movie crews as a sound editor and a writer. He has also directed short films.
