The award winning short film Watu Wote has today been nominated for an Oscar award in the Live Action Short Film category. The Kenyan short film which tells the story of the 2015 Mandera bus attack was nominated during the 2018 official Academy Awards nominations announcement at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. This nomination comes only a few months after the short film won a Student Academy Award.
Watu Wote film is directed by Katja Benrath and stars Kenyan actors Adelyne Wairimu and Charles Karumi among others. The film’s production was a collaboration between Hamburg Media School from Germany and Kenya’s Lightbox Africa.
Other films nominated in the same category include DeKalb Elementary, The Eleven O’Clock, My Nephew Emmett and The Silent Child.
Watu Wote now stands a chance to win an Academy award on 4th March 2018 when winners will be announced.
